 Lionel Messi, commonly known as Leo Messi, is an Argentine professional footballer widely considered one of the greatest players of all time. He was born on June 24, 1987, in Rosario, Argentina, and began playing football at a young age.


Messi joined the youth team of Newell's Old Boys at the age of six, where he quickly showed his incredible talent for the sport. However, when he was just 13 years old, he was diagnosed with growth hormone deficiency, which meant that he needed expensive medical treatment to help him grow. His family could not afford this, so Messi's father, Jorge, took him to Barcelona to try and secure a trial with the Spanish team.


Barcelona was impressed with Messi's skills and offered him a contract, which he signed in 2000. He joined the youth academy, known as La Maisa, and quickly progressed through the ranks. Messi made his first team debut in 2004, at the age of 17, and has since become one of the most important players in the history of the club.
